Delivering footballs, strips & whistles

Angie, Molly and Ben King organised the most fantastic Andy King Memorial Football Tournament, and they decided to donate the money that was raised to Rise Africa UK; Andy was a great supporter of our work and would be very happy. Thank you to the wonderful King family, with the money raised we were able to buy all of our 80 children, sponsored through Rise Africa UK, a football and football strip to have and play with at home.

We went to the best quality football store in Arusha to make sure that the balls don’t break after a week, we bought 80 footballs and strips, as well as 10 football pumps, and received 80 whistles for free. We then squeezed into the car and then back at the lodge we pumped them all up. We delivered them to the children at school. It was such a great experience giving them all out, all the boys and girls were so excited and happy! It’s the only sport they play out in Tanzania and so boys and girls alike were over the moon, especially to have something to play with at home.

The children in the village don’t have any toys at home and so this made them so happy.

Next year – trainers! 🙂

Thanks so much Angie, Millie and Ben

The Andy King football tournament

The tournament is taking place on the 29th October 2016 from 1000-1600 in loving memory of Andy King.  He was an avid supporter of Rise Africa UK, as well as a keen footballer.  The money raised will go towards buying sports and playground equipment in his memory for the Tanzanian schools that the charity supports.

We very much hope that you can come along and support this worthy cause, tombola, raffle, cake stall, BBQ and of course some brilliant football matches.  Everyone is welcome for more information on the event find us on facebook.

The event is being organised by Ben King and a team of helpers as part of the Duke of Edinburgh awards. We thank them so much and wish them every success.

New Shoes & Uniforms

All 24 sponsored children at Heaven nursery and primary school received new school shoes thanks to the kind donation from the Nancy Oldfield Trust. We were also able to buy a second set of uniform for all the children thanks to Tanya at James Allen’s prep school who did a sponsored swim of 100 lengths and raised just under £500!

A huge thank you from Rise Africa UK to the Nancy Oldfield Trust and Tanya!

Art4Africa update

Next week Rise Africa UK are hosting their biggest event yet, Art 4 Africa, an art exhibition held at my Dad’s house in Keysoe, Bedfordshire, from the 16th to the 19th of June 2016! Over 40 spectacular artists are exhibiting including sculpture, ceramics, photography and much more. There will be food and drinks, and smaller items on sale sourced from Tanzania, such as greeting cards, keyrings, earrings and beautiful beaded coasters designed and created by Maasai ladies. This event has been organised by the trustees of Rise Africa UK, with the help of many amazing and wonderful people in the local community surrounding Keysoe, including many children who will also be actively raising money over the duration of the exhibition.

25% of any art work sold will be donated to Rise Africa UK and all funds raised will go towards the education of vulnerable children in Tanzania. Bedford is only 36 minutes from London Kings Cross, and it is free to attend, so please do try and go along! For further information please visit www.art4africa.co.uk.

Wishing for sunshine, lots of visitors and a successful event all round! Thank you to EVERYONE who has worked to tirelessly to make Art 4 Africa happen!

Good luck,
Olivia
